“Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver”
The definition of “Give” – to make a present of, to make a donation, to grant or yield to another, to put into the possession or keeping of another
Have you ever heard the expression that it is better to give than receive? I know that we all love to receive gifts! It is very exciting to receive a present from a friend or relative. What you may not know is that the person giving the gift is enjoying the “giving” as much or MORE than you are receiving the gift.
What we learn from the above verse is that God LOVES a cheerful giver. God doesn’t want you to give with a pouty attitude. God wants you to experience the blessing that comes from giving. There are many verses in the Bible about the blessings of giving. The Bible also refers to this as reaping and sowing.
When a farmer plants a seed, he will reap a crop. We learn in Galatians 6:7, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.”
We are told in Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” God wants you to know that what you give, you will also receive.
When you give to others, Jesus will take your gift and make it even bigger!!! How is this possible? Remember, God loves a cheerful giver and He sees your heart when you give and God is pleased. God can take a very small gift and turn it into a miracle!
There are many ways to give to others besides giving money. You can give the gift of your service. For example, you could do someone else’s chore or offer to help a friend or neighbor. If you have older toys, you could donate those to less fortunate boys or girls. You could have a lemonade sale and donate the money to a charity. There are so many ways to give to others and to God.
You will discover as you start to give on a daily basis that your JOY will grow! The Bible promises us that we will reap what we sow. You can TRUST God! He is telling you the truth and you can always rely on Him.
Imagine the happiness you feel when someone gives you a gift and realize that YOU are bringing the same happiness to another when you choose to give.
It is up to each person to decide what to give. Give with a cheerful heart and get ready to be blessed and JOY FILLED!
